The title’s a bit longer than I’d like but since the song has no words, it felt right. The song is available of Bandcamp now and will be released to the streaming platforms in a month or so.

On Sunday, I turned off the news.
Turned off my phone.
And I wrote this song about a lazy Sunday.
But in the back of my mind,
I still knew the world was burning.

“They’re Calling” March 2025 Winner http://jpeckmusic.com/2025/04/16/theyre-calling-march-2025-winner/ Wed, 16 Apr 2025 22:54:59 +0000 http://jpeckmusic.com/?p=164 They’re Calling, my submission for the Indie Boom March 2025 Song Writing Club won best song. Pretty cool to win 2 months in a row.
The theme I picked for this one was “Awakening”. It’s a song about some one going in and out of sleep while in a coma. Ended up recording this as an acoustic song since every time I added an instrument to this it seemed to take away from it.

This is a beta version of the song that I hope to polish and release for streaming in the near future but in the meantime you can hear the track here.

Lyrics

You were there, and you were there, and you were there
In the sunsets orange glow
Wind tumbling through your hair
Ruffling your coat
I heard a sound, below the noise, a whispered voice
Said it’s time to go
I don’t have choice
That I know
Nothing comes to me

They’re calling, They’re calling
Calling me home
As I awaken from this dream
.. it's not what it seems

Caught a glimpse, I saw a face, I know it's yours
But your name I couldn't say
My thoughts like waves on the shores
They rise and fade away
I heard a sound, below the noise, that whispered voice
Someone I used to know
A memory my mind avoids
From long ago
Here to comfort me

They’re calling, They’re calling
Calling me home
As I awaken from this dream

Had I known, had I known
I never would've come back
Had I known, had I known
I would've stayed in my bed
Had I known, had I known
I never would've come back
Had I known, had I known

They’re calling, They’re calling
Calling me home
As I awaken from this dream

You were there, and you were there, and you were there
In the sunsets orange glow

“The Way It Is” February 2025 Winner http://jpeckmusic.com/2025/03/13/the-way-it-is-won-best-song/ Thu, 13 Mar 2025 22:43:49 +0000 http://jpeckmusic.com/?p=162 My song “The Way It Is” won best song the Indie Boom February 2025 Song Writing Club. The song was written and recorded in a month from one of 3 themes. The theme I picked was “Love’s Last Breath”. It’s just a break up song about coming to grips with it being over.

The song is not officially released and may change before it finds it’s way to streaming services but you can listen here to the beta version.

Lyrics

The words are hollow
Promises unkept
Too proud to swallow
Truth I can’t accept
It was good while we had
Under god and all of that
Another 2 becoming 1
Til it unraveled and came undone
Got none at all, all at once
I’ll take the fall, it’s what she wants
Another night and then another dawn
Dreaming of another life cause now it's gone

It's time I see it the way it is
It's time I see it the way it is
The way it is, the way it is

The water’s are shallow
Nothing to those depths
A love lay fallow
Taking her last breath

But looking back, ain’t moving on
All that greener grass, it’s another con
No way to stop what's to come
Beaten down to the point I'm numb
Another day thinking what went wrong
Another dusk where i belong
Another night and now another dawn
Remembering another life not that its’ gone

It's time I see it the way it is
It's time I see it the way it is
The way it is, the way it is

All the words I could not say
All the words I could not say

It's time I see it the way it is
It's time I see it the way it is
The way it is, the way it is

Folly and Pride – Music Video http://jpeckmusic.com/2024/12/15/folly-and-pride-music-video/ Sun, 15 Dec 2024 16:18:36 +0000 http://jpeckmusic.com/?p=151 Today, I released a video for “Folly and Pride”. This is a beta version of the song. It was written and recorded 2 years ago for Blowup Radio’s bi-weekly challenge for songwriters to write a and record a song in 2 weeks from a song prompt provided. The prompt for the week was to write a song about “Pride”.
Ended up with “Folly and Pride”. I recorded the vocals in an Elliot Smith style. 2 separate vocal takes panned hard. This is probably not the finished version of the song. Pretty sure there is room for a full band backing here. What’s the song about? I think the lyrics tell the story well.

Lyrics

In a palace of stone
Bleached white like bone
From unrelenting beating of the sun
Old timbers groan
With the weight of all things he should have done

He filled the halls
With art and gold
Hauled it inside
He hauled it inside
And in this tomb
He built a throne
On folly and pride
On folly and pride
On folly and pride

Tattered and torn
Each banner sworn
To a long forgotten kingdom lost and won
How time has worn
All the colors, once so brave. But Now they run

He filled the halls
With art and gold
And hauled it inside
And hauled it inside
And in his tomb
He built a throne
On folly and pride
On folly and pride
On folly and pride

He filled the halls
With art and gold
And hauled it inside
And hauled it inside
And in this tomb
He built a throne
On folly and pride
On folly and pride
On folly and pride

He filled the halls
With art and gold
And hauled it inside
And hauled it inside
He filled the halls
With art and gold
And hauled it inside
And hauled it inside
It’s folly and pride

We fill our hearts
Until they’re whole
And hold it inside
And hold it inside
We fill our hearts
Until they’re full
Of folly and pride
Folly and pride
Folly and pride

Monthly Music Challenge Gold Award Winner http://jpeckmusic.com/2023/12/05/monthly-music-challenge-gold-award-winner/ Tue, 05 Dec 2023 22:00:47 +0000 http://jpeckmusic.com/?p=117 My song “They Lied To Me” is now an award winner! It was written for the Monthly Music Challenge with Cosmic Bos July 2023 “Mother Earth” episode. I haven’t decided yet if the song will be released as a single or as part of a future album, but I shared it below for you to take a listen.

The Story

An astronaut for a private company was talked into going to space for a short stint that’d make him rich. They never told him how many corners they cut. The song takes place as he and his crew realize there is no way to stop the ship from travelling further from home. As they lose more hope they joke about suicide and “One last walk”. Moral of the story: Much like suckers, there is an astronaut born every day.

Mike Five Vs JPeck “Avoid and Evade” (Remix) http://jpeckmusic.com/2023/08/04/mike-five-vs-jpeck-avoid-and-evade-remix/ Fri, 04 Aug 2023 16:05:27 +0000 http://jpeckmusic.com/?p=98 This past July, Mike Five from Light and Lines records, asked people to remix his new single “Avoid and Evade”. I’ve never done a remix but thought it’d be fun challenge. I ended up going for a Beck “Odelay” influenced remix.

On Friday he released the single along with 10 remixes by indie artists including mine.

New Single – Lift http://jpeckmusic.com/2023/06/11/new-single-lift/ Sun, 11 Jun 2023 00:57:42 +0000 http://jpeckmusic.com/?p=90 In September of 2022, BlowUp Radio announced their 15th Songwriter’s Challenge to write and record a song in 2 weeks inspired from an audio prompt. “Lift” was my submission for the challenge. This might be the first instrumental track that I’ve written. It gave me a chance to experiment with samples, midi, and some effects that I am reluctant to use.

It’s taken me a couple months to get around to releasing the song, but today I decided to just release it and see what happens. The song is currently available on Bandcamp
